Blue,

Perhaps you know the answer to this question. In previous Solheim Cup teams has a winner of an LPGA tour event in a Solheim Cup year ever been left off of the American team?

No idea. Now I'm curious and will look it up.

I'll take Wie over Gulbis. But it is a close call.

Pat Hurst won the 2009 MasterCard Classic and was not picked for the team that year.

Well in my book, there is no way Wie deserved to be a captain's pick. That is based on how the four players that were 11th through 14th in Solheim Cup points were ranked in my LPGA rating system in 2012 and so far this year in 2013.

Johnson was 11th in Solheim points - 42nd in 2012 - 28th in 2013
Piller was 12th in Solheim points - 56th in 2012 - 25th in 2013
Castrale was 14th in Solheim points - 46th in 2012 - 51st in 2013
Wie was 13th in Solheim points - 80th in 2012 - 61st in 2013

Plus, didn't Dottie Pepper say Meg Mallon told the players the way to make the team was to win. Something Johnson did and referenced in her tweet.

Contrast her remarks to those of the Euro players who also didn't make the team....Sophie, LD...disappointed, but wishing their team well. And Gal was very gracious, even in disappointment.

Twitter....not a good idea to post when you're "hot" about something.
if Johnson had previously played for the US I would think she'd be just as gracious.

also I don't think any of those Euros won a LPGA event this year.

agreed that's it's probably a good move to mask the disappointment but considering Ms. Wie's credentials for the last couple of years and the lack of wins by the American girls , I don't blame Johnson for saying what many are saying even if it's only to their buds.

ps. if it's about team as you say maybe Ms.Wie should have asked Mallon to pick a more deserving player. Now that would be a classy move.

The best example is Heather Bowie in 2005, who won the Jamie Farr the previous month and finished 12th in points if I recall correctly. She was passed over in favor of Wendy Ward and Beth Daniel, 13th and 14th respectively.

Easier said than done...I got on there to follow players (a ton of them) and the golf media, and I find now I'm replying to everyone!
