I just think there are some iffy picks on both teams. Some are lucky they made enough points last year to cover themselves this year.

Meg's chickenshit (perfect term) pick shows what kind of captain she'll be. This does not bode well for good captaining under pressure.

I expect Pressel, Lewis and Creamer to play well. Not a lot of confidence in the rest. Salas may surprise. She's someone that should do well in the team atmosphere. Not sure about her fitness to play at altitude though.

But then who got left out in the points shuffle today.

Jennifer Johnson???? or did Brittany Lang get bumped.

If Wie was picked then I have to assume that Lang got bumped?
You can't leave out Jennifer Johnson after a win.

Lang still made it on points. Barely.

Johnson got passed over. Despite the win. Guess her sponsors didn't have the clout Nike had and her parents didn't threaten to break Meg's kneecaps.

The tough part is in the groupings. Let's see what she puts together, who she sits and how she makes changes during the tournament.

In all honesty one captains pick will not make or break either team.

Piller, Wie, Castrale - I don't see much difference in the long run. I might have gone with Castrale (even with the injury), but I don't think that it will make much of a difference.

I also do not like Sergas as a Pick.

Randall Mell on Twitter:

Michelle Wie said she cried when Meg Mallon told her about an hour ago she was a captain's pick. Mallon said "I believe in her."
I also believe in Michelle Wie. I believe she does not deserve the pick.

Mallon compared picking Wie to Greg Norman picking Adam Scott for the Presidents Cup when Scott was struggling to find his form.
Except that Adam Scott was experiencing a short slump. Michelle Wie has been on a downhill slide since 2006.

If Johnson is the one left out, then I do not like the Wie pick. How many Americans are winning tournaments. Darn few. How do you leave off one who just won. Sorry but winning deserves something.

But as I said before in terms of the team it makes no difference either way. It is just that Johnson deserves the respect for the win.

I think Hedwall and Nocera will surprise for Europe.

Nocera actually had the best record of anyone in the 2009 Solheim Cup. Yes, even better than Michelle Wie (who was the best American) and despite being paired with weak player Becky Brewerton in both Foursomes matches.
