2013 Solheim Cup

The teams have been picked. Now the discussion begins on who will win and why, which players will surprise, which players will disappoint, which captain will guide her team to victory.

I've been looking at the two teams trying to get a sense of who the favorite is. When I compare Rolex Rankings by position, the US players are generally higher ranked (Lewis vs Pettersen thru Wie vs Hull). In most cases, the American player is ranked higher than the corresponding European team member, but the difference in ranking is generally insignificant.

Comparing recent play, mainly the WBO, only two Americans (Lang and Lexi) missed the cut, while 8 Europeans did. The US had half its team finish in the top 20. Only 3 Europeans did.

I'm very nervous about Brittany Lang and Brittany Lincicome, the "Two Britts", as they have shown very little all year - I hope they both find and bring their "A game" to Colorado. If they don't, the rest of the women will have to carry the team.

I am encouraged by Stacy's recent play. She seemed to lose it after Inbee grabbed the #1 spot from her.

I'm going to be superficial and go with the better looking Captain.

It's one of life's great lessons.

In a choice between two things, you can't go wrong by taking the superficial option...

For anyone going to the Solheim Cup, the course at Colorado Golf Club is a tough walking course. It looks like the holes are far apart with limited access.

There's a place in the middle labeled "Viewing Platform." ???

For the US to win back the Cup, Stacey Lewis (1-3-0), Angela Stanford (0-3-0), Brittany Lang (1-3-0), and Michelle Wie (1-3-0) need to perform better than in 2011. It's unreasonable to expect Pressel to duplicate her 4-0-0 record.

Brittany Lincicome was 2-2-0 in 2011. Unless she suddenly becomes inspired as a member of the US team, I don't see her matching that effort in 2013.

It will be interesting to see how Mallon matches the players in the foursome and fourball matches and who she sits.
