That's what happens when you are rich and famous. When the Marine was younger, he'd been doing what he did in every port, not just in the U.S., but internationally, and did not even make it in a local AM radio in Warren, Ohio!

Actually, DB, you're right on the money. I never noticed any wings or haloes on Tiger, so I find it difficult to understand why people are so damned upset that he's human.

There's nothing "lame" about his not taking questions. He doesn't owe us, or anyone besides his family, an apology, any answers or anything else. He said what he said. That should suffice.

I agree completely MP. It's none of our business what he does in his personal life. He's not a pastor, or a preacher or an elected official. The truth of the matter is that all of the outrage you see is because people are to damned nosy. We all need to remember that we all have faults to varying degrees, and how would we like it if it were us in his place, be it for whatever reason.

I think it's lame in these ways...one, if you're not going to take any questions anyway...why bother having a news conference? Just post another statement to his webpage or a video or something...ok, great, we get to see Le Tigre...big deal...

...and two, it just seems like part of his control-freak approach...and it's pointless...he cannot avoid these questions forever unless he retires...so just bite the bullet and do it...that's right Tiger...just do it...

...in the area of not owing anybody anything...on a personal level, that's 100% true...BUT...if eventually...and he will eventually...want to market himself and make anywhere near the staggering endorsement money he made previously...then like it or not, he will need to mend his image with the fans who are the target of those ads...I'm not so sure this "announcement" is even a baby step towards that end...this looks staged and corporate...people say he is just a golfer...

Tiger is far from perfect. I don't condone what he did, and I have to admit I lost a lot of respect for him. On the other hand, no one will convince me that he owes us anything.

For whatever reason, people have put him on a pedestal, then they get pissed when he falls off. Does anybody really believe he's the only player who's cheated on his wife? Athletes in every sport, many of whom some may consider "role models," have girlfriends in every city they visit. It happens. Get over it.

I was one of the people who thought he should have spoken directly to his fans in November instead of running and hiding. But now that he's done it, I can see that it didn't change much. It was the most fake event imaginable. All he did was read stiffly from a script to an audience of his friends. It was obviously something his lawyers and PR folks forced him do in the first step in rebuilding his public image, not something he willingly wanted to do.

What people want from Tiger is for him to not be a jerk and obviously no amount of statements on his web site, press conferences (with neither the press nor the conference part), or excuses that he's in sex rehab will change that.
