Anyone posting here on this discussion board is doing so solely because of the genius and vision of Steve Jobs.

Some may think you're not using an Apple product. They are. Windows-running PCs, Windows OS, Android phones? All are just copies—some very good, many less expensive, but copies nonethless—of Jobs' and Woz's original creation and Jobs' continuing vision, innovation, and creativity.

Here is an interesting link on when was the first computer invented. Also a link to a history of personal computers. Jobs and Apple I believe made copies of other computers themselves, so I can't really credit them as the original computer creators, or even credit them for inventing the computer parts, as the chips, processors, and ram, were invented by other people. I would consider them innovative, to be the first really successful computer business, and the fastest growing company in U.S. business history.

The first such desktop-size system specifically designed for personal use appeared in 1974; it was offered by Micro Instrumentation Telemetry Systems (MITS). The owners of the system were then encouraged by the editor of a popular technology magazine to create and sell a mail-order computer kit through the magazine. The computer, which was called Altair, retailed for slightly less than $400.
When was the first computer invented?

Even the Apple 1 was a kit you had to assemble, as the entire market was hobbyist. But shortly Apple 2 and others came out assembled and this really opened the market. Yes they used processors, ram and printed circuits technology that was existing. And the demand for these items in high volume lead to those manufacturers making faster, smaller and new chips, processors. Sort of a nice circle of life kind of system.

I guess you could argue no one invents the entire technology from scratch, one has to have something to start with. Edison was known for doing a great deal of the development of an entire industry, for example in power generation and distribution to power his light bulb. But copper wire had been invented before him. Electricity generation was possible at a local level. But it does take some skill to cobble together existing stuff, add new stuff, integrate into a product and then actually make a business out of this.

Thanks for the link, that was a good read.

I thought Benjamin Franklin invented electricity by flying a kite!

Man...this discussion escalated again, when all I said was: "Steve Jobs and his advanced technology was partly responsible for people losing jobs."

That doesn't necessarily mean I'm against advance technology since I'm one of those who benefited from it. All I'm saying is, as a result of the use of computers, many people lost jobs because: (1) It reduced manpower in the work place because computer can do what 5 or 6 employees can do. (2) It can do the job ten or more times faster what an ordinary employee can do, thus instead of people working more time for more money, computers take over their job. (3) Computer, if operated by a knowledgeble technician, can do the job faster and accurately, so, why will an employer in his right mind hire people to do the old fashion way?

And may I add, because of unemployment, it has a domino effect on every citizen. Even the retired people who are on fixed income probably haven't gotten any COLA(Cost Of Living Adjustments) from their pension because less employees are contributing to the pension fund. The same with Social Security...I heard they're no longer giving any raises because they are running out of fund because more and more people are taking benefits than contributing to the fund.

The bottom line is: The invention of computer and other advance technology have advantages and disadvantages to it. Another thing...it makes people lazy...like your arshole sitting all day on a couch with his beer in one hand and a remote in the other hand in front of your TV watching the LPGA!

They have found evidence of people using electricity much earlier, with clay pots and called the The Baghdad Battery which they think was used to electroplating objects with gold, or running ancient ipods and mac's.

Hasn't unemployment as a result of technology ever been so? Technology comes in many forms, not just electronic. Invention of the wheel, and therefore carts made human carriers redundant or less often required just for starters. Electricity and gas changed how we heat and cook, wood cutter numbers reduced. Advances will always result in less employment opportunities. Sad, but true.

Jobs never created or invented anything, as such. What he did do was find ways to use to best advantage what others had developed, and anticipate what people would use once he put it out in the market place.

Electronic computers were in place well before Jobs, Wozniak and Gates were born, those three just happened to be in the right place at the right time and see the potential of all the bits and pieces.

A lot of people contributed to the creation of the first micro computers. It is also tied into the first home video game systems. In the mid and late 70's a lot of individuals and companies did work on micor computers.

Remember Jobs and Woz were part of a club of home inventors that shared ideas.

What Jobs and Woz did was create one of the first succesfully micro computers, the Apple II. And yes it was Wozniak that basically did the actual design of the Apple I and II. After that point design was not a person operation anymore.

If you listen to what Wozniak says, what Jobs had it was vision. Jobs certainly wasn't the one who invented the concept for the Graphical Interface or the mouse or the cell phone or other items, but he was able to see these things, recognize how they should be applied and had the ability to lead others to get it accomplished. The Mac.

He had the concept of your music everywhere. The ipod. The tablet computer has been around a while and had been a failure every time until the Ipad.

Well...speaking of inventions, did you guys hear the newest invention that's in the market? It's a Lie Detector Robot that slaps people when they lie.

A dad buys one and decides to test it on his son at dinner.

"Son, where were you today?"

The son says, "At school dad." Robot slaps the son!

"Ok, I watched a DVD at my friends house!"

"What DVD?"

"Toy story," says the son. Robot slaps the son again!

"Ok, it was a porno" cries the son.

"What? When I was your age I, didn't even know what porno was" says the dad. Robot slaps the dad!

Mom laughs, "Ha Ha Ha! He's certainly your son!"

Robot slaps the mom!
