Beautiful girls, beautiful ads. Thaks BKB.

DJGOLFER59 05-23-2011 04:48 PM

I disagree I think the concept is great, good tagline, terrible pictures. I get that they aren't trying to glam up the pics too much but these are awful.

I dunno, DJ. I liked the pix and the ads.

I'd like one of those tee shirts to wear to the gym. (jk!)

BKB...thank you for posting all these links and videos. We've missed 'em!!

Correct, they are not trying to just make frilly pics...lots of these ladies already have typical modeling pics like that...they want almost a strange mix of glam and animal aggression...even the way Kim Clijsters is moving her video is almost like a predator pouncing...

...I think the LPGA is trying for something like this in that commercial series about "see why it's different out here"...

Here are a few more pics...

Maybe you are right. So I will check again all the pictures and videos maņana while having breakfast, including all new pix by BKB. Keep posting BKB.

Sigh
If only Ana Ivanovic played on the LPGA...she could single handily save the tour.

Don't you like the LPGA...."Why it's different" campaign?.....I do....it's a winner..... features Nats, Paula and last but not least AZA....where's Blumie?...lol.

DJGOLFER59 05-24-2011 01:21 AM

I dont know, I like the rawness aspect, I like the powerful theme, but I still dont think the pics are that good.

However I still think its a better campaign then anything the LPGA has ever done.

bangkokbobby 05-24-2011 09:16 AM

I did like the "These Girls Rock" campaign the LPGA once advertised. I still occasionally reference that phrase when writing about the LPGA.

BKB I never did like these girls rock.. I thought it was stupid as it only related to
the very young kids. People who buy the tickets and still play the game mostly
can't relate to "Rock"..
My opinion..

"These girls Rock" was not bad, I liked it. But it has nothing to do with the quality of the campaign that you just posted. Besides in this campaign you can even relate with most of the short statements by each of the participants with the possible exception of the Williams sister. It is fun, its moving and it is beautiful.

Buzzer 05-24-2011 11:53 AM

What about the "I Swing Like a Girl" ads of some time ago. I kind of liked them. I can't remember if they were LPGA ads or for some product?

I think the I Swing like a Girl ads were USGA.

I can see your point. In my mind I can picture the Strong Is Beautiful campaign but with Suzann Pettersen in slow motion hitting a ball of a tee with the powder to emphasize the impact and Suzann in a gown, maybe a voice over by her too. That would look good.

Great!!!!. The LPGA is hot about promoting Lady golfers donating money (including now with RR Donellly, by force) and going to hospitals, and teaching little brats the technique of golf. Thats all very nice, but.... boring. Get Suzann, as you say (slow motion, gown, etc.), and let her talk about her physical ability and why Golf is the sport. There are plenty of golfers that could create excitment, from Grace Park to Laura Davies to some of the beautiful new comers. Short bios are a hell of a lot more interesting for the fans that knowing a Korean gave money to poor mexicans little brats. By far it is more interesting how the Korean made it to the top. And it helps if she shows a little bit of anything. LOL.

I can't understand why people think that there's any kind of correlation between women's tennis and women's golf.

One is a fast-paced sport where finely-honed athletes display a combination of power, athleticism and grace.

The other isn't.

Go on,guess which one's which...

A good definition for most sports. athleticism? Does what most athletes do, duh. Grace and power are also part of most sports from boxing to cheerleading.
Lady golfers fit under the definition of athletes, again duh. Most are powerful (Check interviews about their training itinerary), and what makes golf so interesting is the grace of styles (both men and females).
At least Lady Golfers dont grunt.

I'm arguing with someone who classifies 'cheerleading' as a sport.Duh.

As for athleticism : Fat,middle-aged people can make a living at professional golf .Give me a list of their contemporaries on the pro tennis circuit.

I prefer women's golf to women's tennis, but it's incredibly naive to believe that what works for one sport will automatically work for the other.

Women's tennis is more mainstream. The majors in women's tennis are much more a part of the sporting landscape than the majors in women's golf.

It's night and day.

Anyway, the LPGA wouldn't have the bright minds to come up with a promotional campaign equivalent to that of the WTA.If the LPGA put a slogan on a t-shirt,it would probably read 'These girls tweet'...

Fat people can swing a tennis racket , Saint. It's running after the ball that poses the problem.
Golfers are much smarter...they walk after the ball (into their sixties and seventies, and beyond.):ani_sneeker:

1. Cheer leading. I am not hot about TV watching or cheer leading. But with incredulous eyes I have watch a few competitions at HS and college level of what is now a sport. Including coeds.

2. Before answering about fat middle aged tennis Players. You forget one word about sports. INTENSITY. Some sports like weight lifting (and there are some big fat ones doing it) last only seconds and then the athlete has to rest for a while because the intense pressure on the body. Olympic wrestling takes nine minutes with rest in within. Triathlon can take a whole day. Bicycle racing a full two weeks or more and so on. All sports require different levels of intensity: speed. strength, hearth beat, volume of fat, etc. I can not see a heavy weight fighter playing a soccer match or a Foot ball center playing ping pong or vice versa. Thats why we all love sports, everyone has the freedom to choose.
No, I don't recollect fat tennis players. Arantxa was chubby and short and a few others but insignificant. Laura Davies would have long retired from tennis because of the required intensity.

3. Woman's tennis is more mainstream. Of course and it probably always be. But for female Golf lovers who cares?. Gymnastics and women skating are more popular, but I will keep the LPGA if it lasts. How boring if we all had to like the mainstream sports.

Andrea Petkovic
http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/A...tcFOdzTKSl.jpg

In addition to the "Strong Is Beautiful" campaign...the WTA has started a video series called "Passions", where players talk about some of their favorite things off the course...sure, it's fluff...but let's see where it goes...they just released the first player video, Germany's rising star Andrea Petkovic...

Not so hot as the "Strong Is beautiful", but... keep them coming. TBM.

I said how I didn't feel the photos for the campaign were very good, I don't feel like they portray what they are aiming to achieve, however the commercial campaign for 'strong is beautiful' is fantastic. That is exactly what they are trying to get across in their photos. These commercials are exactly what the LPGA can never do.

I really liked the WTA’s “Strong Is Beautiful” campaign. For those who are uber-fans of the WTA, they have downloadable computer wallpaper available for lots of players including Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki, Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams and Ana Ivanovic, among many others. There are four wallpaper sizes, designed for different screen dimensions: 1024×768, 1280×760, 1600×1200 and 1920×1280. You can check out the list of players and download the wallpapers here: WTA Strong Is Beautiful Wallpapers

I have a question for the posters who didn't like the photos.

Was it the technical work of the photog you didn't like?
Was it the way the players were pictured--too sweaty, not attractive enough?

I'm a photographer who shoots a lot of sports so this interests me.

Me too Elf. And it would be a great way to Glam-up women's golf. The LPGA needs something like this to help sell it's product to sponsors!
