| Senior Member | Oscar Time No reason, just something to read/watch as we wait for the first tee offs. http://www.oscars.org/awards/academyawards/index.html Huh.... somethings I do not get about Oscars. They now have 10 movies up for best picture, and 5 for the other catagories.... why not 10 for all of them to? Second, how many movies are produced in a year? I would think that is would be in the hundreds.... and they only consider 10 out of all those, why? Also, I see they have Avatar up for almost every major category, yet totally ignore best actor and actress, give me a break.... a little CG and no thought to honor their acting.... amazing.... they are cut out even when they put a hell of a lot more into acting then these other actors even dreamed of doing. Oscars. Big time hype for business, yet reality of movie magic is in the eye of a few beholders. When they start considering the whole field of movies in a year, and increase their voting 100 fold, then they well be getting closer to the truth of best of the best in a year. Oscar awards after all these years is still a little playground for the privileged few. And if they do not change, one day they may find the Golden Globes has taken their number one spot for film honors. Those two sayings, 'time waits for no man', and everything changes, well apply to the little gold men to. Sometimes I wonder whats more important, to honor a movie for its accomplishments, or just an opportunity to show off fashion and egos. When the audience is more important then the acts, then there is not show of honor, there is just a fashion show & dance. And this blog is kinda what I had in mind, that being what I see the Oscars really are about for most folks who attend and watch. Well the dresses are nice. :-) http://fashionablepeople.wordpress.c...-prom-dresses/

It's just like food, brother Tee...the Marines like meat and potatoes and I love Steak and Lobsters. And speaking of Tea... A woman goes to the doctor, beaten black and blue. The doctor asked, "What happened?" The woman replied, "Doctor, I don't know what to do. Every time my husband comes home drunk he beats me to a pulp." The doctor said, "I have a real good medicine for that. When your husband comes home drunk, just take a glass of green tea and start gargling with it. Just gargle and gargle." Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn. The woman said, "Doctor, that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband came home drunk, I gargled with green tea. I gargled and gargled, and nothing happened!" The doctor said, "You see how keeping your mouth shut helps?"

. Ya I guess so. If there were no down times, there would be no need for up ones. I just wish the Oscars were still meant for something relating to the work put into a film, then the brilliance of a sparkling light through a diamonds eye. Oh well, times change, so well this one....

Technically almost every movie produced is eligible for consideration for an award, though very few actually worthy. Obviously they can not have every movie on the ballot, so they must decide what they think were the best, and then let the voters decide. What is strange is the they have 10 movies nominated for best picture. I can't remember every having that many, and I wouldn't call any of these classics. Good but not classics. Movies like Avatar get so many nominations because of the technical aspects that are envloved. With all the money spent the better have the best effects, sound, editing ect. It is tough for hard core scifi like Avatar to win acting and best picture. Usually it is tough to get nominated, but movies like Avatar or Lord of the Rings are to big to get ignored. |

. Ha.... made a long reply and when I when to send it my modem dies.... could not get what I wrote back. Oh well.... in short, I wish more movies would be considered, for often I find sometimes years later films that are excellent, yet I have never known of them. :-)

The reason they have ten this year rather than the standard five is so they can waste even more air time. These awards shows are generally boring, mainly because they spend more time thanking the academy than theu do presenting the awards.

I agree. When the presenting becomes more important then the award, sorta losses it's purpose.

The only interesting part is the acceptance speaches that people make and they cut them off. I am not talking about when someone decides to get political, but when someone is shocked and happy to win and they are just trying to thank everyone and be real for a moment, but they will only let them do it in 45 secs. Just televise the major awards, give people some time, and be done with it and you have it in a nice 2 hrs and it is what evereyone will want to see. |

How can we ever forget Sally Fields "They like me, they really like me" speech? I also gave up watching a long time ago.

I get sentimental during the part where they show all the actors who have passed away in the year....
