If the big waves hit Hawaii, it could be in an hour. Hope nothing serious to all residents, but specially to posters.
EWA BEACH, Hawaii – A tsunami triggered by the Chilean earthquake raced across the Pacific Ocean on Saturday, threatening Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast as well as hundreds of islands from the bottom of the planet to the top.

Sirens blared in Hawaii to alert residents to the potential waves. Nine small planes equipped with loudspeakers flew along the shoreline, warning beachgoers. On several South Pacific islands hit by a tsunami last fall, police evacuated tens of thousands of coastal residents.

The first waves in Hawaii were expected to hit shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday (4 p.m. EST; 2100 GMT) and measure roughly 8 feet (2.5 meters) at Hilo. Most Pacific Rim nations did not immediately order evacuations, but advised people in low-lying areas to be on the lookout.

Hi ya notaxbill....thanks for the kind words...BUT...instead of me, I think we should keep those other Posters here from Hawaii that live in the danger zone our thoughts

for me, I live Pretty high up and I live on Oahu...the projected hardhit area is Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii

in fact, my thoughts go out to those people in Chile...wowWIE, that was a Massive Earthquake at 8.8 on the scale

just a sidenote...I am stockpiled with my candy and snacks...I have about 5 cases of soda pop handy....I roll my own cigarettes and I have enough tobacco for about 20 cartons...yikes!!....I am "OVERLY Prepared"...I have enough stuff to last me for the entire Year...hmmm

anyway...the seriousness of this Tsunami lies in the fact that Hawaii is a tourist Resort and that Tourist like to reside in Beach Front areas...this is the cause of concern and danger...hopefully these people can get to an evacuation area and safety

anyway...thanks for the concerns about me...but if you think about it...I am so so cute and cuddly, why would Mother Nature want to spank me....hmmmm....Don't answer that question....

anyway...have a good weekend folks...lemme go grab a soda Pop and smoke me some cigarettes, I gotta get rid of some of this stash somehow...see ya....by the way...Wiesy is doing very well in the Singapore Tournament...go Wiesy go....see ya!!

Here's hoping that all of our Hawaiian posters are safe. Take care of yourselves, and let us know you're well after it's all over.

An 8.8 earthquake is immense and fortunately the center was in a relatively low population area. The recent earthquake in Haiti measured 7, so this was over 100 times stronger. WOW, I have had the unfortunate experience of a few earthquakes between 7 and 8. I can not image an earthquake 100 times stronger.
BTW, the earthquake with the highest measurement was also in Chile (very near where this one happen) in 1960 and measured about 9.5. About 1000 times stronger than the one in Haiti.

Hi ya folks...according to the News...the Tsunami signs are already starting....fascinating stuff is happening at Hilo Harbor....within minutes, you see water reciding and showing some underwater land masses and then in just a few minutes you see the water start going in the oppposite direction and those same masses dissappear...the fascinating part is watching the water ripple action first going powerfully one way and then a moment of calm and then the ripples start going the other way....the scary part is that there seems to be a longer wait in the "calm period"...according to the news, this means it is picking up strength...they said this back and flow motion could last for many more hours...especially since Chile has experienced a whole lot of aftershocks and each of those aftershocks, means action down the foodchain of places that the tsunami's path leads

the very very good news is that the Vast Vast majority of the Hawaii People in the affected areas have had ample time to get to safety...the police and Civil Defense have done an excellent job at shutting down traffic INTL these areas and allowing people to leave...the webcams of the intersections of Oahu show NO Traffic at all...it seems like all of this preparations that they though of have been handled very efficiently....good job by these people

anyway...let's hope that the destruction of this tsunami is minimal....the one thing that I really learned is that "Tsunami Science" is an "Observatory Science"....in other words...the only way you can really learn anything is to actually "BE IN IT and OBSERVE"....past history is ONLY a small indicator of what might or might not happen...the proof is in the pudding when the action actually starts

the good news for the Hawaii People is that because of the vast distance of the Pacific Ocean, the Tsunami's approach time can be judged rather accurately....not like the "NO-Response Time allowed" for those in Chile....the earthquake hit these people and they had no pre-advanced warning to take precautions....the earthquake just came and jumped on these people....now that is SCARY

anyway....have a good day everyone...let's hope everything passes with minimal damages and things revert back to normal....see ya

on a lighter note...remember when I said I had enough Tobacco to last a very very long time...well folks....I almost forgot that my cigarettes are rolled by an "ELECTRIC Cigarrette Roller Machine"...if the electricity ever went out, the maching wouldn't work....hmmm....so Busy Body little ol' me has been busy...I have just rolled a fast carton....just in case....also, my bathtub is full of water...my batteries are within grasp....whew!!!...I hope I didn't miss anything....or better yet, I won't need this precautions....anyway....see ya later folks....go Wiesy go in today's 4th round...see ya!!

Hi ya folks...it seems like the Tsunami Warning for Hawaii just might be changed to an "alert" status as there are indications that the worse has basically been averted....whew!!!....some of the road closures are starting to open up...so this is a good sign

like anything else...it is better to be safe than sorry...but caution is still lingering until the civil defense people gives the all clear status

I think I will take a short nap and gather my strength for Wiesy's 4th round...she tees off in about 2 hours....whew!!....this morning in Hawaii has been very active filled...not the normal "Laid-back" Island style that you normally see...let me see if I can get back to my normal self....hmmm

have a good weekend everyone...see ya!!

Hey Wiesyfan, I am glad you guys on the islands are ok.
Now I wonder if maybe DB is in one of the places being hit.
Hope he checks in.
Small group of friends played hold-em Sat. night each put in 5 bnucks.
I won Some people actually don't like to lose.
I got all the good hands. One hand two of the five had straights and betting was really heavy.
I happen to have the ace, king, queen, jack and ten. It knocked two out and crippled the rest.
From then on it was a cake walk.

I wasn't worried about Wiefan because I know he can swim like a dolphin!
He is the only guy I know who can smoke underwater with his home cigarettes!

Wiefan smoking his homemade cigarette underwater!
