| Senior Member | Movie - AVATAR - Dec 18th 2009 You like war, you like romance, you like fantasy, you like science, you like CG, you like humor, you like realisms, you like any kind of adventure.... then you got to go see the new movie AVATAR.... it may just blow your mind. Mankind has learned how to reach the stars in their Galaxy, (Milky Way), and light year travel is no longer a problem. Out there exploring, they come across a planet unlike any they have ever seen before, it is in a word 'Fantastic'. And they call it Pandora, for it is constantly revealing new and unknown things, moment by moment. The planet as a whole is more violent and alien in nature then anything humans have come across before... yet it holds something very precious that they need. Unfortunately, to get at it there is a savage race parked on top of it, and they do not want to move. This planet is a theoretical what if, what if humans were not the dominant race to run a planet, and the cat-kind did. This is their story, and how they evolved to be top dog.... ah make that top cat, of the evolutionary tree. On this planet you well see colors and shapes and imaginations with very high detail, like not seen before in a movie. The story in a sense, is a simple and an old one for sure of good and evil, but the playground, is not like we humans have seen before. As close as we can come to a comparison of this action, is the Vietnam War, yet that too is a distant comparison. This move has everything for most people... there is no bad language, nor revealing sex scenes, yet it may be a bit over-the-top with it's actions and violence, that could scare the young ones. So, why the name AVATAR? Humans can not exist on this planet as the cat-like people can, yet they want some how to get into close communication with them. They need to find some way they can understand and relate to this new kind of race, for the humans would rather communicate and compromise with them if possible, then resort to force, (ala war). For they, (humans), fully intend to get what they came for, come hell or high water. Thus the idea of sending one of their own into this very alien society, as an Avatar. Avatar - chemically formed creature of blood of a cat person, and a human. The new body, (Avatar), can operate with a electronic tech-no link with the human that controls it, and the body can live and survive in the hostile environment. A good idea.... but things do not turn out as they had all expected. The movie is directed by a director, (James Cameron), who has several blockbuster movies already under his belt... and he pull no punches, nor cost, in producing this one. To get the most of this movie, (before it arrives on December 18th), is to go to the main home link, (as below), on the Internet. There the first thing you see is the main trailer.... below it are options.... (1) to enter the official site, (lots of stuff there to), or (2) download the INTERACTIVE TRAILER, which installs Adobe Air, (if you do not yet have it installed - takes 20 seconds). Now this Interactive Trailer, is a must see if you are interested in this movie. For it well give you approx 10 new in-depth views, (lengthy videos), and much more background of the movie, and its actors, that you do not get with the main public trailer. In my opinion, (with out yet seeing this movie), this is one film this year not to miss.... if you dig adventure, and imagination, and fantacy.... this should also be in your Christmas bag. Go see it, or take a peek at the INTERACTIVE TRAILER.... IF YOU DARE! :-) Avatar Official Movie Website | In Cinemas December 18 UpDate : And the sequel is coming out next year. :-)

. Seen it 3D, fantastic. If your interested in more then what the trailer shows, try these two links. (1) Is interviews with the 3 of the main actors. (2) Is about 9 short videos that show more revealing parts of the movie then the main trailer, you well like them. :-) (1) http://entertainment.ie/Movie/featur...Lang/2/464.htm (2) Avatar trailers and video clips on Yahoo! Movies Update : Check out the number 4 of link 2 'When You Are Ready', as it gives you a better feel of the planet Pandora, (if you've not seen the movie yet). Gets you right in there. :-)

Saw it in 3D Monday. Loved it. I have not seen it in 2D to compare, but I think the 3D is probably worth the extra cost for a ticket.

. Ya, it blew me away, in more ways then one, and 3D was just one of my interests. No matter what people feel about the movie, its plot/story/theme etc... it literally takes CG to its highest level yet.... and I see even more technology coming for film, (digital imagery I guess its called now days). And that all means, (when you think about it), that any, and I mean any book, idea or story, can be put on screen, no matter how fantastic and look like real life. You think it, and someone can create it, to show everyone what you see. Maybe we well have to stop saying Motion Picture, and start thinking Mind Pictures. :-) Not all of the Directors ideas were well done, for me, yet many were.... the love angle of alien and human worked very well for me. I suppose that is because, I am a world interested person and very into other races, (which are all human), yet could be seen as alien on first contact. What I have found in the last fifteen years of my life about others, (mainly Asian), has been fascinating, mind expanding, and emotionally fulfilling. In the first part of my life, (all before the last 15 years), I learned and knew about local life and folks, now its worldly.... and I sorta feel I somewhat wasted those first 40 or so years, kinda like not fully living my full life's real potential. This movie AVATAR, sort of says this kind of thing also.... that just because we are different in some ways, its the differences that fully colors ones life, to fulfillment of comprehension of self and of others. Ah... bit overboard, but thats one of my feelings of the movie. I guess I am a pushover for love stories. :-) One other aspect I liked in this film. is the color used. It is bright, and not dark like a of of futuristic movies. Too many good fantasy movies are darkened, mostly because they could not show in lighter colors, the reality they what us to believe in. Thus, many movies depend to much on our imagination to make a story work. When that happens, I have a hard time getting into the story, and soon find myself bored . With these new comp-tech CGs, (with motion capture), now available and with more coming.... I well go back into the theaters to watch the movies again. Saying that though, in the future most 'theaters' well probably be in the home, in large screen HD 3Ds. That would be nice to. I talk to much.... and this is one of those times.... sheeesh!. Happy New Year All. :-)

Were the 3D glasses a distraction? I wear glasses and would then have to put them in front of my regular glasses. Did anyone seeing this movie also have glasses? How did these work.

I just found this link. http://boardreader.com/thread/Can_yo...lrX2jia7o.html My theater had 3D on one screen and 2D a few minutes later on another screen. If your theater is like that you could try on the glasses and have a fall back if they were not comfortable. Good luck. |

When the DVD comes out for AVATAR, I suspect there well be a directors cut version, which should show a lot of time-cut scenes, that they could not squeeze into an already very long theatrical version. Like Lord of the Rings, this movie uses Peter Jacksons Weta studios in New Zealand, and there well probably be a 5 DVD pack of the Directors Cut.... which I well for sure buy. :-)

We just got back from the 2D movie. Maybe it is all the hype for this movie - it could not live up to that much hype - but we all found this to be a good movie but not a great movie. We go to so few movies in a year I really can't comment about Oscar in the normal acting categories. It will win on special effects. But the plot was quite predictable. Maybe a supporting actor role to the head military guy - he was good in that role.
