This somewhat more balanced view is a link on Larry the Caddie's site, also from Golf.com:

Why Lexi Thompson shouldn't join the LPGA Tour just yet - Tours & News - Golf.com

Blue,

Here's the problem that makes predictions about Lexi difficult.

Lexi has raised the bar for those who will follow her to the LPGA tour, namely winning an event at 16. We can't make light of that fact, it is important, because in modern golf, great players tend to win at a young age and her win at 16 is historic on the LPGA tour. However, Lexi is also a female teenager and who knows what her interests will be a couple of years from now.

So, the question becomes, for the long term, is Lexi destined to become a hall of fame player on the LPGA tour?

I think the answer to that question, at this moment in time, is a guarded yes.

Really? What great players have won at a young age?

Annika was 25 when she won her first LPGA event....Ochoa was 23....Mickey Wright was 21.

Yeah, there have been a few 18 yr olds who've won, but I wouldn't call them "great players." Good, yes...."GREAT"....er, not yet.

Who are these great players you're talking about that won at a young age?

Yani. I believe she won at 18 and has 5 majors (or 4?) at 22. At that age Annika and Lorena were still maidens (winning events).

Yes. You're right...Yani won at 18 and has won 5 majors (plus ? other tourneys). That certainly puts her more in the "great" category than anyone else I can think of who did it at a young age.

Lojo,

Would a relatively young age do it for you.
