Mentor's Katie Spotz prepares for an improbable quest: Rowing the Atlantic

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Any number of catastrophes could befall Katie Spotz in the next three months. She knows them all, and will rattle off all the potential and likely issues that could arise when she's by herself, surrounded by the nothingness of the Atlantic Ocean.

There are salt sores. Blisters. Dehydration. Sunburn. Seasickness. Exhaustion. Loneliness. Landfall. Freighters. Sharks. Storms.
Barring a broken bone, a major equipment failure or a lack of drinking water, the Mentor native is prepared to overcome them all.
If she does, she will become the youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Rusty, A big question is what makes us what we are and do the things we do?
Is there that much money at the end of the row?
Millions maybe?
Bungee jumping maybe or sky diving something like this no way.

I hope no matter what happens, she ends up ok...I assume she will have a radio and GPS device in case something goes wrong and she has to call for help. Does some sort of vessel trail her on remain in radio contact with her...

Rowing.... now that is tough. Across the entire Atlantic, wow. If even if a mid sized storm gets you, one might just be thinking GPS real quick, then continuing to put wood in water to keep that wood chip upright.

If she does do it though.... a remarkable feat, especially for a female.

Last, good thing its not other waters on the east side of Africa.... less Pirates on this side. :-)
