Maria Sharapova at 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

more pics on my blog: Maria Sharapova at 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week NYC Fairways and Forehands

Masha at the Marc Jacobs show

Former world #1 and 3 time Major winner Maria Sharapova made the rounds during the 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City. Masha, besides being a world class tennis champion, lends her name and design ideas to fashion apparel, particularly her very popular line of Cole Haan ballet flats. She attended a number of shows including the Vera Wang Fall 2012 show, the Marc Jacobs show and the Rodarte show.

Wouldn't it be nice if LPGA develops a mega star like Maria Sharapova?

I think there are a handful that if they started to win a lot of events could reach a level of stardom. The same as Sharapova? Maybe. She's the highest paid female athlete in the world (due to sponsorships), but why can't a female golfer eclipse $20 million a year, too? There have been a couple who have had years that eclipsed $10 million. Here are a few more pics of Masha during fashion week. More on the link in the first post.

Michelle Wie and Paula Creamer came the closest to Maria in terms of generating non-sport fans albeit at a much smaller scale. Hopefully Lexi or Jessica will do a better job.

The point is to make LPGA bigger than it is and it has been. Annika did her jobs but LPGA is still not a big deal yet.
