So....just like Annika, she wouldn't come back at ALL if she didn't feel she could play at the highest level and compete to win. She's not gonna pull a Nancy Lopez, et al, just to come back because she "misses the game." |

Interesting comments from Lorena 2 months ago.... During a February 19, 2010 news conference, Ochoa said she was delaying the start of her family.Hmmmm. |

She's just not enjoying it as she used to... that's what I think... she need to put her act together.

Maybe she's trying to pull a Brett Favre on us!

Lorena will certainly be missed. She plays the game with the same beauty and integrity as she leads her life off the course. Hopefully, one day when the time is right for her she will grace us with her presence. Until then, i hope she recieves everything in life she wants and more.

I think it's a good idea that she's "retiring" now - she's obviously not happy (ie: the uncharacteristic display at the Kraft) and if she wants to get her life together, more power to her. I'm not sure she couldn't come back after a break and go for that 10 year deal, but with some people, there are more important things in life than "milestones" - I agree, it'd be a shame if she's not in the LPGA HOF, but maybe, just MAYBE, she doesn't really care about that. Lorena is definitely a family person, and I think that's what's first and foremost on her mind, much moreso than the game of golf. Agree with LoJo - she won't come back just to get the 10 years in, she'd have to know she could be competetive. She had her "day in the sun" - maybe that's all she wanted.

I don't think there is anything wrong with her leaving the sport as world number one. Anyone would feel ok with leaving at this point, one of the greatest woman's golfers of all time. Good luck to her I hope she comes back.

If she's got the points to get in the HOF,there should be an amendment to the rules somewhere down the line. I think she'll have a family and go into politics ;eventually, she could become more famous off the golf course than she was on it... Pax Vobiscum Saint-Just X |

It would not be a shock if she came back one day in the future, but I also wouldn't be surprised if this is it either. Lorena always seemed to value her family, even before getting married, over golf. There were times when she was in golf tournaments focused not only on her play, but some endeavor in which her brother was involved. I am very fond of Lorena on and off the course as I noted here: These Girls Rock! One Sports Fan's Opinion She really has used her life as a force for good. A person like her will be missed. But I also, as a Seoul Sister fan, will miss her on the course. Although she is not the player she was two years ago, she is still the reigning Player of the Year and ranked #1. Two favorites of mine, Yani Tseng and Ji Yai Shin, now look poised to assume that mantle. But for me, it takes away a little of the glory of reaching #1 if the person who was there retires in the prime of their career. When Annika retired, Lorena had already overtaken her and was the clear #1. That is not the case here with Yani or Ji Yai. I am not the kind of fan that, for example, hopes the star quarterback or point guard or pitcher for an opposing sports team is injured so my team can win. I want the opposition to be at full strength. No excuses when my team beats the opponent. And if the opponent prevails, then they are just better and I tip my hat. Ji Yai still hasn't reached her peak. It would have been awesome to see a fully developed Ji Yai battle Lorena for years to come. And there are others like Yani, Ai Miyazato, Michelle Wie, Na Yeon Choi and Song Hee Kim that are on the rise as well. To be the best, I prefer to beat the best, not have the best retire while still young and on top. But Lorena is doing what she wants to do; what she feels called to do. And I wish her every good in the future. I'd love to see her back on the course competitively one day, but if not then best wishes.
