Hi, I don't even know how I found this site, but I am glad I did. I'm the guy who wrote that letter. I'm glad you liked it. Our local paper did a great story on it, but they missed what I was trying to say. Their slant was "How to turn 25 cents into 5000 dollars". It did go on to use some of what I had to say, but it was more a Golf story I thought. I really just wanted to say thanks to the LPGA for such a great event, "Top Shelf" all the way! Also, I tried to convey the respect and admiration I feel for Cristie, as an LPGA player (more diligence and skill than I own), and as a Human Being (she makes a HUGE difference in so many lives). But as I sat down and allowed my thoughts to form my words, it became a love letter to my wife as well. I tell her I Love her a thousand times a day (and I mean it more EACH time I say it), but I think I fail to tell her how much I respect and admire her. She too has made a great difference in so many lives, mine especially. The battle she is fighting right now is more than just physical, it has to wear on her emotions as well. You would NEVER know it! Barb swears she tells me everything, but I know there are some things best left unsaid, so I never push. She doesn't think this Cancer will kill her, and you know, I believe her. Her words and actions tell me more than do her doctor reports. Bless them, but, as I said in the letter, they do not know her well yet. They have known her almost two years now, and WHEN she is cured, they will be fully aware of my Schmoopy! THIS girl Rocks! Oh man, here I go again! NO, I just wanted to say thanks for taking time out of your lives to read a story about a man, who has been swept up in something he doesn't understand, but HAS to tell everyone about it. Maybe the next time you see a Pink Ribbon donation box, or are lucky enough to meet Cristie at a LPGA function, pop in a Quarter or two, it may make a world of difference to you too. Thanks! | Inspired to Donate....support Cristie against Cancer
A great story............8 stokes back is a long way. She must be a great golfer as well as human being. Kerrvature, your story about Cristie inspired me to donate to her charity.........guess in memory of a parent I lost two years ago to cancer. Went to her site, but the pledge page wasn't working. I will check back and make sure it is working / on-line later. If not, I will post a "not up and running notice" on here in the hopes someone can get it back on-line. Hopefully, someone can post updates to her fan's donations on here to make sure we beat last years total that was raised. |

It is with great sadness and a very broken heart I feel compelled to inform you that my Soulmate has begrudgingly surrendered in her battle against breast cancer. Barb was stolen from our lives September 16th 2006, and it is only now I can find the words to share with you my loss. My beautiful and courageous warrior was admitted to the Oncology wing of the London Health Sciences Centre on Sept. 1 and valiantly fought until the time of her death. Her doctors told me three times in the last week of her life that she was going to die, two times she fought back, but could not overcome the effects of cancer on a failing liver. In the end, I know she has moved on to a better place, a place that has replaced the pain caused by her cancer, and filled it with the love I feel for her every second of every day. I lost so very much that Saturday, my wife, my lover, my best friend, and the very best playing partner any one could have ever, ever asked for, in any game, especially the one called life. Miss. Cristie Kerr has responded with a kindness I have not witnessed in my lifetime. I have truly been overwhelmed by her kind words and gestures. She had my letter to the LPGA beautifully framed with a simple and dignified plaque with the inscription " In memory of Barb Eagleson September 2006", and beneath it is mounted the quarter I had given her for good luck. I weep openly every time I look at it, which, unfortunately for me, is often. There is more, but it is personal, and shall remain so. I cannot begin to thank this woman enough, but I intend to try! Miss. Laura Neal, the Director of Public Relations of the LPGA, a person many of you may not know, but should (she has very entertaining, and funny articles on the LPGA website, OWL), has been instrumental in putting Cristie and I in touch, and is now writting an article on my Schmoopy as we speak. I knew I had sent my email to the right lady, and she is every bit a lady. She too is a person I cannot thank enough, but will harass until she says "Uncle". She has touched my soul. And you, kind and gentle reader, once again I find myself thanking you for taking time to read the meanderings of a man who now, REALLY doesn't understand what he has been swept into, but REALLY has to tell EVERYONE about it! My friends, it is more important than ever to support this fight against breast cancer, because I honestly cannot stand the thought of one more person having to go through the agony I am currently experiencing. Please give generously. Thanks Al Eagleson London Ontario Canada |

Mr Eagleson [Al], Truly sorry to hear the sad news. I will be making a donation for cancer research here in England tomorrow. I'm sure the wider LPGA community will also mark her passing with sadness, as well as many here. She sounded like a heck of a gal your wife. A fighter and someone who retained a spark no matter what befell her. It's an example to us all, and somewhat puts into perspective the meaningless nonsense which we give importance to from day to day. Walk tall Al. It's what your wife would expect I imagine. You're in my thoughts. Rosebud |
