This is an excellent article, greentree. Thanks for posting. Cristie gets a lot of bad press and most of it is not deserved. The party line on her is that she used to be fat, ugly, and shy and now she is thin, pretty and rude. It's not so simple or black and white and I think she's misunderstood and gets a bad rap. I've seen her in person and I've seen her interact with fans. She's not great at it all the time, but she's trying. Both the worst and the best interactions I've ever seen between an LPGA player and a fan have been between Cristie Kerr and a fan (different fans, different tournaments).

Any tournaments I've ever seen her at I must have missed the "good" part, this includes volunteer work where you can actually get "up close and personal" with players. Bad rap? I don't think so. THIN??

I've always viewed Cristie Kerr as a person with a low tolerance for bullsh*t. She does great work for her cancer charity, she's been the most consistent American golfer of the past half dozen years and she acts like a woman, rather than a high school senior. Frankly,I adore her... Pax Vobiscum Saint-Just X |

My only interaction with her was as a volunteer. She was cordial, but not as friendly as some other players. I can't say anything bad about her, but she isn't my favorite, either. I guess I'm kind of neutral.

I'm kinda like MP on this. Real good article tho. I only know what other players have said about her. But lets wait and see if as she says she is in the process of making herself over.

This thread interests me. I've always had the impression that Christie has not been well liked but I've have never read the "evidence" she wasn't. I've always admired her as the next generation of "senior" golfers on the tour but have the impression she is not respected. I've never attended an LPGA tournament so I've no first-hand witness of her interaction with fans or players... I feel sort of ignorant as to where this perception is. Anyone want to fill me in on the dirt? Thank you! |

anyway...in a nutshell, I happen to like Cristie Kerr...she is definately in my "Top 5"...the lady is very Classy...I do believe that Cristie was one of the Players that celebrated Yani's Nabisco Win along with Christina Kim...I think I remember seeing her after the tournament was over...anyway...regardless, Cristie Kerr is good for the LPGA and the LPGA is lucky to have her anyway...have a good day...see ya!! |

I have "known" Cristie (NOTE the spelling, folks) since she was a fat, bespectacled, nerdy kid in Miami. I don't know her personally, but have followed her career since her junior ranks and amateur golf and into her professional life. I have spoken to her (and walked with her dad Mike) at Amateur and Pro tourneys, though she would not remember me from Adam's house cat. I followed her because she was a very talented kid from Miami, which is where I lived at the time she blossomed into what I felt would be a great player on the LPGA. I agree...as she would...that she came out on Tour as a bratty, arrogant kid who thought she was gonna be #1 in no time flat. I believe we've heard this sort of stuff from others too. Yes, she did 'transform' herself physically into an attractive young lady. Did her personality change much? Eh...I dunno....she's very intense, very much wanting to win, sort of a "take no prisoners" type of person, so there was really no way she was going to change that too much. She admitted that much of this was because of her insecurity. Fair enough. I think with age, she's mellowed quite a bit. I do remember the quote from Helen Alfredsson....something like ...."She used to be a fat bitch...now she's a skinny bitch." Everyone laughed at that, as well as Laura Davies' comments about the US Solheim team...."....Eleven really nice girls and one not so nice." Cristie is sorta the more recent generation's version of Dottie Pepper I guess. I used to detest Dottie for her demeanor on the course and her general bitchiness. But, now I pretty much like Dottie. I like Cristie too. She's got a good heart, even though she wants to rip out the hearts of the other players. Nuthin' wrong with that. |
