Perhaps you should tell Annika where her loyalties should be.

During the Ryder Cup, she came on with a good luck message for the European Team.

That's just natural Paddymoan. Just like when the Texan move to Colorado...they still root for the Dallas cowboys instead of the Denver Broncos. And then when they move to Ohio...they still root for the Dallas cowboys.

Huh I didn't know Annika was an american now. So does all the accomplishments she had while swedish ( she was swedish right ?) switch to being american. I don't think they can lay claim to them being done as an american, its like in baseball and a player is traded all the good stuff he did w/ his old team doesn't get added on to the new team's record. So the question now is when did Anikka become an american citizen if it was last year then i'll consider her golfing accomplishments as an american Super good b/c didn't she win 10 times and two of those times where majors. That would have put her in the running for best american player for me dependant on the criteria for golfing skills but there's such a thing as the universal spirit for me meaning when the americans are playing are you rooting for them. Hearing that Annika was wishing the European team luck knocks her out of conntention for me as the best american overall but she could still be the Best Playing American, which hey aint bad.

On a side note come on Annika like the European team needed any more luck they walloped us, Annika should have been wishing the American team luck and a miracle as well. :P

Annika has dual citizenship which allows her to opt for the team of her choice. She must play for the European Solheim Cup team by rule. Only American BORN players can play for our team, and the same is true for the European team.

Added thought: I think the Solheim Cup ( and Ryder Cup also) team should be open to players from the Americas.....North, Central and South. Players like Lorie Kane (Canada), Lorena (Mexico) and Marisa Maena and Nicole Perrot (South America) should be included, as should Mike Weir, et al, for the Ryder Cup. After all, the European team is comprised of players from ALL the European countries that can qualify. The first Ryder Cup teams were limited to Scottish and English players.....it wasn't opened to other Euros until sometime after WW11.

I would also like to see a format that would include the Aussies, Japanese, Koreans, South Africans, and whoever else, in there, but I don't know how that could be done unless they went to a three team type of competition.

Viva Annika

Michellefan, Annika is 100% Swedish and 100% European.
The only reason she took American Citizenship, was so that she wouldn't have to keep getting visas.

All of Annika's achievments are considered that of a European player. So, no she isn't in the running for best American player.

In the case of the Ryder Cup, that is fine, because America has done very badly and could do with the extra help.
In the case of the Solheim cup, that is a bad idea, because the Americans already have the stronger team, without adding in Lorena Ochoa to it.

The first Ryder Cup teams from European was Great Britain and Ireland. So it comprised of Irish, English, Scottish and Welsh players.

Paddyman I don't think golf players from other countries should be added to team events simply b/c they could bolster the performance of one team or the other but b/c they deserve a forum to showcase their talent just as much as Americans or Europeans, doesn't it seem unfair they don't get that opportunity. I don't care if its something like US Vs the world like i've seen in ice skating or nothern hemisphere vs southern hemisphere etc alter it somehow so everyone gets a opportunity.

I think Buzzer's point is well made. As Paddyman stated, what is now the European Team started as Great Britain and Ireland and has become all of Europe. The American Team should be increased to include Canada and Mexico, at least.
