comments at the ADT

I've just read Kerr's interview at the LPGA site from Friday.

Here's a player who didn't witness the situation(except on tv) between Annika and Paula but has in effect called Annika dishonest. It's quite clear from her responses to the questions.

Kerr should have kept her big mouth shut. She's made a fool of herself and it seems to me that what she said could amount to defamation.

Q. With what happened to the people on the last pairing yesterday, were you amused by that?
CRISTIE KERR: I really didn't hear. I heard something about it, but I played bad yesterday so I left immediately after my round. I didn't really hear exactly what happened, but a lot of the times it's really up to golf is a game of honor. I know nothing about what happened, but golf is such a game of honor, and you just hope that people uphold the honor of the game. That's all I can say.

Q. Can you get comfortable out there?
CRISTIE KERR: Yes, you can. It comes down to one player's word over another. You got to believe the honor of the game, you know, especially if you have people watching. It's not like she would intentionally try to take an illegal drop. And, again, I think, if she is going to do that, it's on her conscience. I think only she really knows what happened.
Paula apparently got a very good line on where the ball flew in and it never carried the line of the margin of the hazard. She would have to retee. I saw it on TV last night briefly. It looked like a straight block. So again, it's up to interpretation.

Q. Did you think it looked like a slice?
CRISTIE KERR: Yes, it didn't look like a slice. My whole thing, you know, uphold the honor of the game, be honest. If you hit a crappy shot, you have to go back to the tee. It's unfortunate what you have to do.

Q. It's a feisty move for a rookie, and they said you were feisty when you were a rookie?
CRISTIE KERR: If Paula thinks she is right and she has evidence to think she is right. When you are playing in a two some, it's really easy to follow the ball of somebody else. So Paula had good reason to make her think about it. Yes, you got to stand up for what you got to believe in, too.
You know, I think the thing on 16, there is not a lot of ball marks on these greens. If there is a scuff mark, again, it's up to interpretation. It just depends.

Great catch Cleo ! ..... ya I agree she should have said nothing but its nice to see a little bit of needle out there between the top players, don´t you think ?

I don't mind a needle, Shortcake. If done in the right way like between Annika and Tiger. But to intimate something was done by a golfer the caliber of Annika to gain an unfair advantage is a sign of just plain old jealousy. Paula is feisty and that is good for the game. She didn't agree with the call and that is fine also. What Paula said was just a result of exaspiation, and the total lackof experience as a professional athlete. Since Cristie Kerr opened her big mouth after admitting she saw nothing and wasn't even there, reeks of pure stupidity and crass ignorance. Her childish behavior after her putrid round today shows that she apparently lacks the intestinal fortitude to become a real.champion. She may be a tour winner, but she is no champion golfer......and never will be....................Viva Annika

Actually Shortcake I read about that at another site and just exploded.

I wonder(and forgive my amateur psychology) but I've read about people who undergo a physical transformation but never seem to accept the new person. What I'm getting at is back when Kerr was quite overweight and likely took the usual ribbing, maybe she developed a very defensive edge and now that's she's become the beauty still there is the "fat girl" resentment because of past abuse toward her.

Anyway, she better hope Annika doesn't react to her comments as I have done. It's one thing for the trolls at the different boards to write lies about her but Kerr could get into serious trouble with slanderous comments. The public doesn't have much respect for athletes who deliberately cheat. Someone who would be perceived as " in the know" like Kerr could cause Annika's marketing stature to tumble.

Cristie Kerr was way outta line in her comments. It seems to me that she and Creamer have become good "U-S-A" young babe buddies, and she was just repeating the crap that Creamer spouted.

Both insinuated that Annika had somehow 'cheated' with the decision she was given on #18 on Thurs. Er....Annika didn't make the ruling...the Rules Official did. End of story.

For either Creamer or Kerr to make such comments regarding the integrity of the world's #1 player...the greatest player in the game....is disgusting!!

STFU!!!!

Hi LoJo, is there not a big difference between Paula and Cristie here though. Paula as her playing partner is expected to be involved and to have an opinion if she saw where the ball crossed. Cristie,on the other hand has no business in the matter.
I think I have more respect for Paula for sticking to her guns than if she had backed off. For a nineteen year old I don`t think she did that badly in her diplomacy. As for the part of the referee, was that not just her adjudicating that where the player and playing partner disagree you side with the player.

...... as for Cristie having followed a few of her rounds ..... I`m inclined to agree with Catrin Nilsmark.
