I don't think Ochoa can be replaced in one season as number one.
She will be player of the year.

It's Shin for me but it'll be very close with several players in the running. Lorena could take it again for a 4 peat but she's got to turn her game around. Her putting was almost as bad as Annika's was after she won the Mic Ultra.

I believe that Lore will be playing extremely well when she starts this
year. I haven't seen her schedule yet. She should be over whatever
was bothering her. I wonder is she was or her family were threatened
in some form. This of course is speculation!

I don't think Paula will replace her as the number 1 ranked player, but I think she has a great shot at POY.

The criteria for Player of the Year:

"The Rolex Player of the Year is awarded based on a formula in which points are awarded for top-10 finishes and are doubled at the LPGA's four major championships and at the season-ending ADT Championship. The points system is: 30 points for first; 12 points for second; nine points for third; seven points for fourth; six points for fifth; five points for sixth; four points for seventh; three points for eighth; two points for ninth and one point for 10th."

Here is some more POY data for reference.

Top 10 2008 POY Finishers

1 Ochoa 314 pts
2 Creamer 188 pts
3 Sorenstam 170 pts
4 Tseng 158 pts
5 Stanford 120 pts
6 Alredsson 100 pts
7 SH Lee 99 pts
8 I Park 86 pts
9 E-H Ji 84 pts
10 Pettersen 83 pts

Stacy Lewis, Ji-Yai Shin and Michelle Wie are in the poll but were not LPGA members last year. If they had been accumulating POY points, they would have received:

Lewis: 21 pts (8 events, points earned in 2)
Shin: 161 pts (10 events, points earned in 6)
Wie: 0 pts (7 events)

I think Lorena might still edge out another one but I expect Ji-Yai to be a real contender.

Looking at the POY list of last year, I never realized Stanford ranked 5th. I've said it for years now, but she has been the most underrated player for several years now. I hope she can keep up her good play.

Lorena and Ji-Yai will both win a major, I think Paula will get her first, and I think Suzann will be back in the winners circle and add another major as well.

Darkhorse for the year: Cristie Kerr.

It looks like Ochoa with 314 pts is going to be hard to beat.
