Smiley must be an idiot.

I could not believe it. Smiley Whan is currently saying that Lexi must still earn her card via q-school.

I hope someone files a lawsuit, not against the LPGA tour, but against him, for being a complete idiot.

We may hear in a few days that he changed his mind, or something like that.

I think he'll have to change his mind. Having won an LPGA tournament, she'd seem to be a shoo- in. If he insists that she earn her card through Q-school, I think it would be a huge mistake.

Don't worry,Gxer.

Within days,he will cave to outside pressures.

Remember, where Smiley is concerned, the first decision is not necessarily the final one...

I think he will be forced to change his mind but I also think he will try and save face by saying that he was misquoted by the media.

I think he will cave as well, but regardless of that, what he said, given the circumstances, was a stupid thing to say.

I'm usually a big supporter of Whan but this is absolutely ridiculous. First off she has nothing left to prove at Q-School so realistically why does she have to still go? You've already in theory waived the age exemption so age has zero to do with it. Second off Asians have been granted membership via winning co-sanctioned events so what the hell is going on around here? Alexis has proven herself to be a mature, well spoken grounded young lady and she is going to be seventeen next year not fifteen or sixteen. You send her to Q-School and you take a chance that she has a bad week or has a bad tee time due to weather and it all blows up in your face. You also miss the chance of any good media exposure and great marketing which is why I was advocating that Whan grant her membership immediately to "strike while the iron is hot!" Lexi is the real deal and she will be an asset to the LPGA tour.

Wonder who gave him the advice to make that statement? Where was the new head of communications?

I agree that by end of week he flops and she is in, as it should be since she won.

Here's what Juli had to say about Whan's decision.
------------------------------------------------
LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan didn't seem inclined to give her the equivalent of a qualifying school GED.
"Should Lexi qualify for LPGA membership via her Q-School performance, she will be an LPGA member for the 2012 season," Whan said in a statement after the Navistar LPGA.
Veteran Juli Inkster thinks Thompson is ready for membership socially and as a player.
"It's kind of silly, isn't it?" Inkster said. "I think it makes us look bad, too. Now, you have to go to qualifying school? To me, that's silly."

I am convinced that all Lexi's agent needs to do is file another age exemption request and it will be approved, regardless of the statements made by Smiley.

IMO, he has no basis on which to turn down the age exemption request since he has already granted one for q-school.
