Rookie 2010 - Amanda Blumenherst

.
This is about the No 2 rookie on the 2010 list, Amanda Blumenherst.

Most of you probably know some or a lot about this young player, (age 23), as she has been in golf news for some years now. But if you know nothing, or a little of her, or even if you know allot about her, here is some information on Amanda's golf bio, and past and recent history. There are 4 news articles, and 2 videos.

In brief Amanda Blumenherst is a full college graduate at the Duke University of Arizona, (a Duke girl), she was born and also lives in Arizona and is in LPGA priority list 11. Hope you like the links. :-)

(1) This is her Golf Bio at Duke. http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.db...&ATCLID=153303

(2) This is a little article on her you probably have seen before, titled 'Still Chasing The Dream'. http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.db...ATCLID=3745427

(3) This article is about when she won Q School this year. http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.db...CLID=204845819

(4) A few short questions and answeres with Amanda. http://www.theacc.com/sports/w-golf/...062607aaa.html

(5) A video of when she won The 2008 US Amateur Tournament, in which Amanda dueled out the win against Azahara Munoz, a Spainish lass, (who also is a new 2010 LPGA Rookie). Video is aproximently 5 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwKFMQasMBI

(6) This is a short video, (30 seconds), about 6 months ago of Amanda recieving the Red Coat Award. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvbhb2IWi5o

End.

GT, what is your prediction on where she will finish on the ROY list come the end of 2010?

How about the overall class? 2009 was such a special year...one can legitimately see Shin, Nordqvist and Wie among the best of the best for many years to come...and Stacy Lewis will make noise, too...

I do not know for sure yet, (my feelings), as I have yet to get to know more about all the 2010 rookies. If last years rookies is any harbinger for this new year of rookies, I think I better study more before giving hard predictions. Yet I well say this, from what I have read and see of her in the last few years, she is a name that well not go away.... at a guess she well be one of the leaders for the ROY. Just a fast guess now. :-)

Overall I suspect they all well be contenders.... they are so good these days.... the rooks of today are not your grandmas rooks. One case in point is this Spanish girl who challenged Amanda, and is also in the ROY hunt, Azahara Munoz.... I would like to know more about her to.... Can not pick with darts anymore, this is serious stuff. :-)

Is there a Duke curse, though...they have had some top college players, including my favorite player Virada Nirapathpongporn, but not that real #1 threat on the LPGA Tour recently...maybe Amanda will be that player...of course, I don't want to put too much pressure on her...hope she has a good year and is happy...

Curse or no curse, still one step at a time.... rook race to contend with, and maybe a win or two.... been done last year.... we shall see. I wish her all the best, she has the tools, its now how she learns how to use them, at high altitude. :-)

Amanda at 2009 Jamie Farr Classic...you know, the reporter describes her as "only 22"...but these days on the LPGA Tour, that seems like a late start for a professional...players are developing so young on tour...

Seriously have there been any real #1 threats on the LPGA Tour recently not named Annika, Lorena or Jiyai?

There are a lot of curses to go around.

Yes...but I have expected them to do better...for example, Virada won the NCAA Championship, beating Lorena Ochoa...one of the few things Lorena didn't win...was a US Amateur Champ and a multiple winner on the Futures Tour...but as an LPGA player...not the same kind of success...

...also expected more from Anna Grzebien, another NCAA Champ...

...with 5 NCAA Team Championships in the last 10 years, I expected somebody to step up...

...on the other hand...Arizona and Arizona State have had their college stars go on to do big things, including Lorena, Annika, Grace, Natalie and current superstar in the making Anna Nordqvist...

Amanda started to make changes in her short game at the end of last August. It took a little while to get accustomed to the changes, but the results have been great. She won both stages of LPGA Q-School, and tied for 5th at the CVS Pharmacy LPGA Challenge. Amanda hasn't been this excited to play golf in a long, long time. She's having fun.
