2010 Rookie: Maria Hernandez

It's difficult to ever predict how an athlete will perform when they step up to the highest level of competition...NCAA Champions like Annika, Grace, Pat Hurst, etc have done well...others...not so much...so it's hard to predict how Maria Hernandez, the 2009 NCAA Champion, will do...good luck!

BKB-I would re-title this with a pre 2010 Rookies : , so Maria Hernandez can take her place with the other Rookies of 2010. I know this is video only, and there is an area just for that... but she is special to the LPGA and in the Rookie folder we could add things about her, other then just a video.... or more videos. Whatcha think? :-)

BTW - I think there are only 6 rookie players we have not posted here yet, one of them is Lucy Kim, who I think used to go by the name Moon Su. Also I think you also did Jean Reynoldsto, I well search and see if I can find her. :-)

Nope, could not find a folder on her, but I think I covered a little on her in 'Pre Rookies", still better she gets her own folder in Rookies. I am a bit tired now, and soon well be busy with other things, so can't do any research for awhile. If you, or others, would like to try completing the 2010 Rookie Players folders.... only 6 left.... be my guest. Then we well have all of them up for any to see.... and we will even beat the LPGA with info on all their Rookies for 2010. Anyways.... Cya down the road man. :-)

Oh ya, the girls we have yet to fill in info for. :-)

Katie Kempter, Lucy Kim, Beatriz Recari, Jean Reynolds, Whitney Wade, Alison Walshe. 8-)

Update: March 2010 from DFT - Maria gets her first lick in an LPGA event. :-)

8. Hernandez Makes LPGA Debut This Week In San Diego

Duramed FUTURES Tour alumna Maria Hernandez of Pamplona, Spain, will join sister rookies from her homeland in San Diego this week to kick off her LPGA career. Hernandez, along with Beatriz Recari, Azahara Munoz and second-year LPGA Tour member Tania Elosegui, all will meet teacher and Spanish National Team Coach Marta Figueras-Dotti at the event. Figueras-Dotti, a 20-year LPGA Tour member, was the LPGA’s first Spaniard and has helped groom Spain’s newest crop of young stars, including Hernandez.

“I’ve been working with Marta for many years,” said Hernandez, who was the 2009 individual NCAA Women’s Golf champion. “I’m pretty excited about the beginning of my LPGA career. That’s what I’ve wanted all my life.”

The 2010 season will be the first full professional season for Hernandez, who will rejoin her old pal Elosegui this year on the LPGA Tour.

“We played on the same national team when we were younger and we played a lot of tournaments together,” said Hernandez. “Now, Marta will be there for both of us in San Diego.”

Hernandez, 23, says she is eager to see how she stacks up against other LPGA Tour members. She has also never played golf in California and is curious about courses there.

“I feel like for my entire career, I’ve been improving, step by step, instead of just a big jump,” she added. “And that’s still the goal, to continue to improve each week.”
