The Kia Classic was played for the first time in 2010 at the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California. The tournament has moved this year to the Pacific Palms Resort in City of Industry, California. This years field will features 77 of the top 80 players from the 2010 LPGA Official Money List and the top 11 from the current Rolex Rankings.

World number one Yani Tseng will be challenged at this tournament to hold on to the number one spot in the 2011 money list by Karrie Webb who has won back-to-back victories of the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore and RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup, Webb will also be looking to equal the record of winning three consecutive events. The last player to win three events in a row was Lorena Ochoa in 2008.

The current defending champion is Hee Kyung Seo, who won last year by 6 shots over Inbee Park. Seo only holds one LPGA victory so far, however she hold an impressive 11 victories on the KLPGA tour.

The tournament one day record is held by Inbee Park who shot a 65 or 7-under-par in the 4th round.

Michelle Wie, will have extra incentive to win this year she is partnered with the title sponsor Kia, producing a video commercial with Kia.

Industry Hills Golf Club is perhaps best known for its long fairways it is a par 73 course of 6714 Yards. Players with the longest drives might hold an advantage if they can keep accuratly to the fairways.
